At risk of becoming obsolete, the contact sheet was a tool for film photographers – a record of shooting, a tool for editing, and an index to an archive of negatives. The sheet embodies so much appeal –the sense of time unfolding, the traceable movements occurring within the space of the frame, and the raw authenticity of photography’s aspiration as an art form: to give a transparent representation of reality.
